What's in a Name? Request for Ideas

Posted by Andrea Nadosy on Mon, Nov 22, 2010 @ 08:43 PM

I may be going out of my mind. I love naming. It’s usually my favorite part of the whole design process, but right now, I’m completely stumped. I’ve designed my favorite bag to date and I can’t for the life of me come up with a name for it.

Here are the details:

-       designed for smaller Apple laptops (specificatlly, the 13” MacBook Pro and MacBook Airs)

-       inspired by early 1960s American fashion

-       dedicated iPad compartment

-       a plethora of other neat pockets throughout

-       It’s simple, elegant and profoundly useful

Any ideas? All thoughts welcome!

Naming is hard, but what about naming it after someone famous that personifies what you are describing? Like Jackie O or someone else from that era?

How about "Quant" -- she invented the miniskirt – one of the most iconic fashion statements in the 60s... and the name has a bit of cool factor. Quant also aligns very nicely to a new product designed to house the more "mini"malist computers. Like the trendsetting approach to rethinking laptop bags creating fresh, style and function - much as 60s fashion did. Cheers!

Your reference to the 60s reminds me of "Sock it to me". And how about other Laugh In references like a "Henry Gibson" model (includes a poem, or pome as he called it) and the ubiquitous "curious yellow" they used for skits. Men of a certain age remember Goldy Hawn as the wild a crazy blond...

My artist daughter has (and loves) her Mac Air, btw.

Sorry, meant to finish my Laugh In list. So we have a "Goldy" model, a "Here's the Judge" model (black with grey) a "Henry Gibson" model, and "Sock it to me". This could be fun!

I love these ideas! Thanks so much Ian and PJ and Dawn! Ian, I love all of those ideas. I am definitely going to put them on the back burner for future ideas. PJ- Quant is so cool! Maybe for the iPad cases? And Dawn, I love Twiggy! Thank you so much for your great ideas!
